Blending Scandinavian and modern design, this 1,278 square foot home is equal parts hygge and hardy, with a beautiful wood stove, vaulted ceilings, and brand new two-car garage.

House Tour. The Aster has been a true labor of love, gut-renovated over the past ten years, with most of the work done in the last few. It’s an efficient, easy-to-manage home, with an open layout and vaulted, light-wood ceilings that convey spaciousness beyond its footprint.

Immediately upon entering, you are enveloped by its hearth, with its minimalist wood stove and airy, open living room. Warm your toes as you relax on the sofa. Upstairs, the lofted office, workspace, or additional sleeping area, is efficiently heated by the stove below. The diamond window and many skylights flood the loft and living room with sunshine.

Back on the ground floor, host family and friends for dinner in the open dining room and modern galley kitchen. Rich white oak cabinets and Hevea countertops, Energy Star appliances make the kitchen a luxurious place to cook. There’s even a wine fridge for your collection. Modern, minimal open shelving keeps the kitchen feeling spacious and tidy, and the large window behind the sink adds serenity to tidying up. Note the kitchen’s limewash walls, which add texture to the space. Continue through the kitchen to the large, modern mudroom with red oak floors, Shaker-style peg racks, and plenty of space for your winter gear. With an additional seating area or play area for children, energy-efficient mini splits, floor-to-ceiling windows and glass sliding doors that lead to the property’s four acres, the mud room is a versatile space that can fit many uses.

On either side of the large back room are two bedrooms. The primary bedroom is spacious, with cathedral ceilings and a large window. Wake under the covers with warm light flooding onto your bed. The secondary bedroom is currently staged as a children’s room, but could easily be a guest room. With two large windows, this room also basks in light. Light is also a plus in the large bathroom, with bathtub, shower, and modern minimalist shelving. Some house contents are included in the sale price.

The Grounds. Perched on a hilltop, with forest views from every window, The Aster is as private as it is accessible, with easy access to town and well-placed trees hiding parts of the road.

A new 30x20 outbuilding, which currently functions as a two-car garage, can also be used as a studio—though you may want your cars protected in winter.

In the summer, plant tubers and tomatoes in your raised garden beds, which get loads of sunlight despite the forested setting.

The Area. Located in Catskill Watershed, in the town of Neversink and only 100 miles to New York City. The Aster is minutes from enviable swimming holes, hiking, fly fishing on the Neversink and really any outdoor adventure you can imagine. A five minute drive to Liberty will provide you with all modern amenities, and fifteen minutes will get you to the popular town of Livingston Manor.
